Sliding Rock

One of my favorite sayings is “a life lived in fear is a life half lived”and I really try to remember it. Yesterday, though, I had a hard time reminding myself that I try to live by this!
We have been exploring the area around our home, because Ron, 6, told us we needed to do that and we all agreed. Well, I had the bright idea that on David’s day off we all needed to head to Sliding Rock in the Pisgah National forest about an hour from our house. Then, AFTER I got everyone on board, I looked it up. (Note to self, read up on something first!) Online we read about the 60ft rock and 8ft deep water that you plunged into and I had major second thoughts about going. I also read that children 7 and under had to ride with a parent, so that meant that David and I each had a kid to take down. I was nervous about going by myself….what had I gotten us into??
Well, we went. The kids were all in jean shorts (I highly recommend this) and so were David and Ruth and I. We took all our kids, Maddy’s friend and David’s sister Ruth and her son, Jacob. We waded through the water and up the rock and slid dddddoooowwwwnnnn the rock into freezing cold water! It was scary, fun and challenging all at the same time! It literally took my breath away both times I did it! So, I faced my fear and made it down Sliding Rock and it was totally worth it!
I am not sure what adventure comes next, but I am definitely reading up on the adventure before I suggest it to everyone else.

Wow, I don't think I could do that. I thought I was good at facing my fears this past week getting on a jet ski. But I am a pretty big chicken.
